Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 23 February 2025).
1) Hosted and moderated the CVGS DNA Interest Group Meeting on Wednesday. I reported on the upcoming RootsTech 2025 conference, the upcoming i4GG conference, MyHeritage Ethnicity Estimate 2.5, MyHeritage Ancient Origins, FamilyTreeDNA matrix, 23andMe's updated genetic groups, and the DNAGedcom website. Members of the group discussed their recent DNA work.
2) Participated in the 17 February Mondays With Myrt webinar. Barbara Tien was the guest on ProjectKin and Maureen Taylor shared information about MemoryWeb. I briefly shared about the MyHeritage MyStories book project.
3) Transcribed the 1885 Mortgage Discharge of Alexander Sovereen to Robert Thompson Livingstone for Land in Norfolk County, Ontario for Amanuensis Monday.
7) Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy subjects:
9) Had eight free AI tools create poems about the Genealogy Hobby using keywords. Posted the ChatGPT4 poem on Facebook in "The Genealogy Bug."
10) My AncestryDNA now has 48,383 DNA matches (up 174 from 16 February) with 2052 "close" matches today (up 10), with 1 new ThruLines. Added Notes to 3 Matches, and added one new DNA match line to RootsMagic. MyHeritageDNA now has 13,277 DNA matches (up 17 from 16 February) for me. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.
11) Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree. Matched 52,366 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 31).
12) Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles. My RootsMagic family tree now has 74,150 profiles (up 45 from last week) and 147,379 source citations (up 14). Added more short biographical sketches and source citations to ancestors, and edited historical place names for a number of families. Set off the Ancestry and MyHeritage Hints by searching for 2nd great-grandparents and later.
14) Real life events: Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno. Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Finished reading Night of Thunder by Stephen Hunter and started Simple Lies by David Baldacci. My SDSU Aztecs were 1-1 in college basketball, so are now 18-7. The Padres exhibition games have started and some are on TV.
