Randy's Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 9 March 2025

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 9 March 2025).

1)  Attended the CVGS Board Meeting on Wednesday.  I reported on the Research Group, DNA Interest Group and Newsletter activities.  Wrote, edited, and sent by email the March 2025 edition of the CVGS Newsletter.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society program meeting on Saturday, with Dave Robison presenting two talks on free online genealogy resources.

3)  Attended the RootsTech 2025 Conference online and watched about 30 presentations either live or on-demand.  Wrote three blog posts about the classes in:

4)  Transcribed the 1893 Mortgage Discharge of Alexander Sovereen by Lemon Gibb Sovereen for Land in Norfolk County, Ontario for Amanuensis Monday.

5)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for 2nd Great-GrandUncle James Rich (1817-1885) of Hilperton, Wiltshire and Cardiff, Wales for the 52 Relatives theme.

6) Curated genealogy-related articles  to keep myself and my readers updated on the genealogy world in:
7)  Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy subjects:
7)  Requested free AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics commemorating the life of my 2nd great-grandmother, Mary Jane (Sovereen) Kemp (1840-1874), and had Suno.com create a song using the lyrics.  Posted the poem created by Grok 3 and the song lyrics by Grok 3, and the Suno song MP4, in "Mary Jane's Lullaby" -- A Family History Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

9)  Worked on the new MyHeritage "Cousin Finder" tool to add content to my family tree.

10)  Helped my college grandson with a sociology assignment to interview me about my family and my life.  My 4th grade grandson asked for information about Presidents that he is related to - I referred him to a recent blog post.

11)  My AncestryDNA now has 48,610 DNA matches (up 88 from 2 March) with 2066 "close" matches today (up 3), with 1 new ThruLines.  Added Notes to 4 Matches, and added one new DNA match line to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 13,334 DNA matches (up 32 from 2 March) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

12)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  Matched 52,475  of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 15).

13)  Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 74,260 profiles (up 17 from last week) and 147,391 source citations (up 6).  Added more short biographical sketches and source citations to ancestors, and edited historical place names for a number of families.

14) Wrote 24 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which three were a press release. The most viewed post last week was Find RootsTech 2025 Syllabus Articles and Download Them with over 306 views.  Genea-Musings had about 29,800 page views last week and over 674,000 views over the past month.

14)  Real life events:  Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Finished reading Judge and Jury by James Patterson and started Game of Snipers by Stephen Hunter.  My SDSU Aztecs were 1-1 in college basketball, so are now 21-8, and are seeded 4th in the Mountain West Tournament.  The Padres exhibition games have started and some are on TV.
