Best of the Genea-Blogs - 21 to 27 April 2013

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Follow-up to NERGC 2013: Fun, Connections, Success by Barbara Mathews on the MGC Sentinel blog.  Barbara highlights the behind-the-scenes activities at NERGC.

*  Thoughts on Blogging by Midge Frazel on the Granite in My Blood blog.  Midge offers counsel for bloggers about some mistakes and decisions she made on her blog.

*  The Why by Jen Baldwin on The In-Depth Genealogist blog.  Jen explains why the IDG team decided to be Official Bloggers at NGS, and more.

*  The Posts I Most Wish Official Bloggers Would Write by Nancy on the My Ancestors and Me blog.  Nancy offers her thoughts on the subject in a positive way.

*  CALL FOR PANELISTS: Mastering Genealogical Proof (MGP) Study Group by Pat Richley-Erickson on the DearMYRTLE's Genealogy Blog.  Pat has organized a Google+ Hangout On Air schedule for this study group, which anybody can watch on YouTube during or after for free.

*  My Grandma was a Cherokee Princess and Einstein Hated Cell Phones by Gena Philibert-Ortega on Gena's Genealogy blog.  This makes the list just on the title alone...Gena's right about evaluating family stories.

*  My Genealogy Workflow by Elyse Doerflinger on Elyse's Genealogy Blog.  Elyse describes her workflow process from finding a record to WikiTree.

*  Genealogy is Anthropology by Emily Garber on the (Going) The Extra Yad blog.  Emily has an interesting view about "what is genealogy?"

*  Sorting Saturday ~ How I Organize My Digital Files by Kim Mills on the Footsteps Of The Past blog.  Kim organizes her digital files to my own system.  It works!

*  Drop the Mic! by Heather Doyle on the Of Trees and Ink blog.  Heather had a great idea - make a "Dead End List" and then decide what to do next for each one.  It worked for her Doyle line!

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Monday Recap for April 22, 2013 by Amanda on the Geni Blog.

*  Follow Friday - This Week's Favorite Finds by Jenn on the Climbing My Family Tree blog.

*  Follow Friday ~ Favorites for April 26, 2013 by Heather Kuhn Roelker on the Leaves For Trees blog.

*  Follow Friday - Fab Finds for April 26, 2013 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

*  Follow Friday - Favourite Blog Posts from 23 March to 26 April 2013 by Aillin O'Brien on the Australian Genealogy Journeys blog.

*  UpFront Mini-Bytes by Diane Richard on the Upfront With NGS blog.

*  Friday Finds - 04-26-13 by Julie Cahill Tarr on the GenBlog blog.

*  Saturday Serendipity (April 27, 2013) by John D. Tew on the Filiopietism Prism blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Google Reader, RSS feed or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1350 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Thanks, Randy. After reading this, I had a dream that I went to San Diego and you made me speak. Wow, do I need a vacation!
