Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 197: 1887 Marriage Certificate for Henry A. Carringer and Della A. Smith

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - time to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the marriage certificate for Henry Austin Carringer and Della A. Smith in 1887 in Wano, Cheyenne County, Kansas:

This certificate is in a frame and hangs on my "Ancestor Wall" at the entrance to the genealogy cave.  I love that the couple added their photographs to the certificate.  I took a photograph of the framed certificate on my wall rather than take it out of the frame and scan the certificate.  The certificate has hung in a family home since 1887 - first in the home of Henry Austin and Della A. (Smith) Carringer's home from 1887 to 1946, then in the home of Lyle L. and Emily (Auble) Carringer from 1946 to 1977, then in the home of Frederick w. and Betty (Carringer) Seaver from 1978 to 1988, and in my home since 1988.

The transcription of this certificate is (handwritten portions in italics):

THIS CERTIFIES:

That on the 11th day of September in the year 188 7
Mr. Henry A. Carringer and Miss Della A. Smith
were united by me in the Bond of Marriage at Wano, Kansas.
Witness:  A.E. Boring                        Rev. Emanuel Richards
                                                        Minister of Congregational Ch.

The source citation for this marriage certificate (crafted using the RootsMagic source template for "Marriage Certificate (church)"):

Mr. Henry A. Carringer and Miss Della A. Smith marriage, 11 September 1887, Congregational Church, Wano, Kansas. Marriage Certificate; held in 2014 by Randall J. Seaver ([address for private use], Chula Vista, Calif. 91911).

This marriage certificate is an Original Source record, is Primary Information for the names of the parties, the marriage date and place, and is Direct Evidence for the marriage event.  I have not found any official record for this marriage event.  I do have entries in loose family Bible pages in my possession that provide the same information.

What a lovely certificate that is Randy. Your giving me ideas about hanging the ones I have that are particularly nice. Thanks!
