After Ancestry.com ran a promotion for their new Victorian Youth Offenders collection (see Tattoos, Pigeon Theft and Financial Fraud in Victorian Youth Offenders Database on Ancestry.com), Ancestry.com offered my readers the chance to win a 3-month World Explorer Ancestry.com subscription (see Victorian Youth Offender Records Contest, posted 1 May 2014).
I publicized this contest on social media several times, and it closed at midnight Sunday night. I ended up with only one contestant, which really surprised me. Reader Jack'sMommy5 made this comment on my blog post:
"I found this interesting case in the England Prison Records, 1801-1914-
"This was at the Wakefield House of Correction, November 1, 1842
"Mary Penistone, age 50, Height 5 feet, 2 inches, married to Richard Penistone, 7 children, maiden name Aldridge. Imprisoned from November 1, 1842 to April 29, 1843 for stealing a pair of shoes that belonged to Margaret Heaton. She also stole 9 yards of printed cotton and 10 silk handkerchiefs, property of Dennis Roberts."
I need reader Jack'sMommy5 to contact me via email at rjseaver@cox.net with her real name and email address so that I can pass that information on to Ancestry.com.
