Family Tree Maker 2017 News - March 2017

To all researchers who have Family Tree Maker 2014.1, or FTM Mac 3.1, and earlier - your TreeSync with an Ancestry Member Tree will stop working on Wednesday, 29 March 2017.  If you want to sync your FTM and AMT trees one last time using the FTM version you have, you should do it before Wednesday.

The Family Tree Maker website says:

"After March 29, 2017 Ancestry will shut off the their TreeSync technology and we will together deploy MacKiev's new FamilySync technology over the following two days. FamilySync, which is built into FTM 2017, will allow you to continue syncing with your Ancestry trees, use Ancestry Search and get Ancestry Hints. These functions will no longer work in older FTM editions after March 29th."

The FTM 2017 FAQs are at https://support.mackiev.com/856847-Family-Tree-Maker-2017-FAQ#PRODUCT.

Family Tree Maker 2017 will be released on Friday, 31 March 2017.  If you purchased FTM 2014.1 or Mac 3.1 and installed it, then you will receive a notice to download FTM 2017 for free on 31 March 2017.

If you want to order FTM 2017 or Mac 3.1, you should do it by 29 March for $29.95 at the FTM website - www.familytreemaker.com.   After 29 March 2017, the price will be $39.95 for the program upgrade and $79.95 for a new FTM user.

The FAQ page says:

" If you have not done so already, sign up for our mailing list at www.familytreemaker.com, and you will receive information on how to pre-order Family Tree Maker 2017. "

and:

"To pre-order FTM 2017, US users can click here, in Canada click here, in Europe click here, and in Australia click here."

It is important that you click on the correct link for your region.

After FTM 2017 or Mac 3.1 is installed on your computer, your current FTM data files and media files should work fine.

The new FamilySync feature, which will sync your FTM tree with your Ancestry Member Tree will work in a way similar to how TreeSync worked with FTM 2014.

What a scam. I received ONE DAY's notice that Treesync will stop unless I buy a copy of FTM2017 immediately. This just feels like blackmail and is no way to treat loyal customers. I have used FTM for years but no longer guys if that is how you're going to behave. One of its big selling points was syncing trees and to use that as leverage to force an upgrade (that actually doesn't look like it delivers much) will backfire on MacKiev.

Really cross about this (as you can see!)

Used FTM since its inception many years ago. No more after this scam. Switched to Legacy software.

Thank you, MacKiev, for saving Family Treemaker! As some may not recall, Ancestry was not going to support Family Treemaker and it's sync capacity any longer. Thanks to you, Family Treemaker remains the best genealogy program and the only Mac friendly program around. It is a small price to pay to upgrade to 2017 in order to keep a sync capacity with Ancestry. Even better, MacKiev has made it possible to sync with Family Search and to sync from multiple computers. Although the launch is delayed, I can't wait to try out this new expanded program!

I used FTM 3 for Mac. The upgrade to 3.1 was free, and so is the upgrade from 3.1 to FTM 2017. I pay a small fee to be able to sync the same tree from multiple computers, something that wasn't even possible before. In other words: I don't understand those who complain and call this a scam. The information in this post is not completely correct; check out the MacKiev web site before yelling scam!

Does this only work on Mac computers?
Id like to buy a new and updated FTM as I have used many old versions of the program. What would you recommend for a PC?
Thank you
