National City, California, "National City Birth Register [1886-1920]," unnumbered page, Devier David Carringer entry, born 19 August 1889; in possession of Chula Vista Genealogical Society, Chula Vista, Calif.

The Henry Austin and Della A. (Smith) Carringer family resided in National City, California when their first child, Devier David Carringer, was born on 19 August 1889.  His is the earliest birth in San Diego County of any of my ancestral families.

The birth was recorded in this Birth Register used by the city of National City, San Diego County, California.  In addition, the birth was recorded in a family Bible and in family papers.  Devier died nine months later on 10 May 1890.

Devier David Carringer is my granduncle, the brother of my maternal grandfather, Lyle Lawrence Carringer (1891-1976).  His given names are the names of his grandparents - Devier James Smith and David Jackson Carringer.  He is buried with his grandparents, David Jackson and Rebecca (Spangler) Carringer, in La Vista Memorial Park in National City.

This National City Birth Register (and the Death Register on the other side of the book) was found in the files of La Vista Memorial Park in National City when the Chula Vista Genealogical Society was reviewing the cemetery records, and the society salvaged the book when it was about to be discarded.  The society is in the process of creating a spreadsheet with all of the information in it which will be published as a book in the future.

So excellent that the CVGS rescued that register. It is difficult to understand why it was to be discarded.
