Seavers in the News - Mrs. Cassius Seaver Dies in Wilbraham, Mass. in 1917

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a semi-regular feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Springfield [Mass.] Republican newspaper dated 20 October 1917:

The transcription of this article is:

"Death of Mrs. Cassius Seaver

"Mrs. Cassius Seaver, 43, died at her home about 5 o'clock yesterday morning after a long illness.  She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Addison Bennett of Wilbraham mountain.  Her early life was spent in Wilbraham.  Twenty years ago she married Cassius Seaver and spent the latter part of her life in Cambridge.  Early last Spring she moved to her old home in town.  She leaves her husband and four children, Ernest, Florence, Evelyn and Vera, also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Addison Bennett of Wilbraham, and five brothers, George Bennett of Greenfield, Stanley and Winfield Bennett of Palmer and Roscoe and Leon of North Wilbraham; also three sisters, Mrs. Allan Seaver, Mrs. Fred Metcalf and Mrs. Luther Farr, all of North Wilbraham.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at Glendale Methodist church at 2 o'clock.  Burial will be in Glendale cemetery."

Cassius Benedict Seaver (1878-????) married Imogene E. Bennett (1875-1915) on 30 April 1899 in Wilbraham, Massachusetts.  The obituary never mentioned her first name.

I did not have Imogene E. (Bennett) Seaver's death date, and now I do, probably 19 October 1917.  

I did have the birth dates for the four children mentioned, Ernest, Florence, Evelyn and Vera, but do not have death dates or marriage information for them.

Cassius Seaver married, secondly, to Flora Collins before 1924, and they had two children, Phyllis and Clarence. I don't have death records for Cassius, Flora or Phyllis.


Am I related to Cassius Seaver?  Probably, but I don't know the parents of his great-grandfather, John Seaver (1778-1841).  John may be a grandson of Robert Seaver (1702-1752), my sixth great-grandfather.
