The book, The Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury, Massachusetts ; with some related families of Newbury, Haverhill, Ipswich and Hampton, provides a short sketch of Joseph Colby and his family[1].
Joseph Colby was born 30 July 1707 in Amesbury, Massachusetts, the son of Joseph and Anne (Bartlett) Colby[1-2].
On 18 March 1735/6, Joseph Colby married Abigail Warren (or perhaps Worthen?) in Amesbury[1,3]. They had five children between 1737 and 1750, all born in Amesbury and recorded in the town records[1]:
* Ephraim Colby (1737-1737).
* Joseph Colby (1739-1839), married Molly --?-- (1750-????) before 1776, resided in Concord, New Hampshire.
* Abigail Colby (1742-????).
* Hannah Colby (1745-????). married John Underhill (1745-1816) in 1767, resided in Chester, New Hampshire.
* Ephraim Colby (1750-????).
Joseph Colby Jr renewed the covenant on 8 July 1739 at First Amesbury Church in Amesbury[1].
He was probably the Joseph Colby who resided in Chester, New Hampshire in 1760 and 1768[1].
There are no death or burial records for Joseph or Abigail Colby in the Amesbury, Massachusetts or Chester, New Hampshire areas.
