Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:
1) Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting on Wednesday with 12 in attendance. I reported on the news from DNA Central, AncestryDNA ThruLines Filters, the 23andMe family tree, MyHeritageDNA locations, and YouTube DNA videos. In the second hour, I answered questions from the attendees, including "How certain is a small DNA match?", "How many cMs in my DNA?" and "How do I find a common ancestor with a DNA match?"
2) Moderated the San Diego Genealogical Society RootsMagic User Group on Saturday, with 8 in attendance. We discussed matching RootsMagic profiles with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles, and sharing event information; Ray has two trees on Ancestry, but is only Editor on his attached DNA tree, so can't TreeShare with RootsMagic; putting a FamilySearch Family Tree into RootsMagic; and working with Groups of profiles (e.g., ancestors of a person, descendants of a person, DNA matches, buried in a cemetery, Facebook friends, end-of-line ancestors, etc.).
3) Attended the SDGS DNA Group on Saturday for the first hour. Colin provided a review of the recent i4GG conference, and other DNA news, and reviewed his recent DNA matches, and isolating his deceased wife's DNA using his daughter's DNA on FamilyTreeDNA.
4) Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt with Pat Richley-Erickson. This was from the Family history Library with about 20 attendees in groups of two or three over two hours. I found URLs for websites and blogs to help out.
5) Watched one Family Tree Webinar - "A Convincing Argument or a Confused Mess?" by Barbara Vines Little.
6) Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandmother #529 Hannah (Benjamin) Gates (1669-1752) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.
7) Transcribed the 1807 will of John Richman (1724-1807) of Hilperton, Wiltshire for Amanuensis Monday. This John Richman may be my ancestor - I don't know yet.
8) Added Notes to about 5 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors, and added one ThruLines to the RootsMagic family tree database. Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.
9) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 34,450 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 53).
10) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 56,211 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 27) , and 116,483 source citations (up 280). I TreeShared three times this week updating 154 profiles, and I resolved 1,001 Ancestry Hints. I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 124,793 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.
11) Downloaded the rest of the RootsTech 2020 Handouts from the RootsTech website and put them in a file folder, which I copied to my laptop. Printed off my RootsTech schedule and am gathering stuff I need for my trip to Salt Lake City.
12) Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which three were press releases. The most popular post last week was New Family Search Tool Unlocks Data in digital Record Images with over 461 views.
