Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Favorite RootsTech Connect 2021 Moment, Experience, Session, Feature

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along - cue the Mission Impossible music!):

1) Did you attend the free and virtual RootsTech Connect 2021 this week?  What was your favorite moment, experience, session, and/or feature?

2)  Put it in your own blog post, in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook post.  Please leave a link in a comment to this post.

Here's mine:

1)  My favorite "moment" was watching the Song contest - very earnest and serious and enthusiastic singers playing their original work.

2)  My favorite experience was going to the Desktop Diner in a Zoom meeting on Friday and being able to actually talk to people in the breakout rooms.  I spoke with Diane L. Richard (who I knew of but have never met) and we talked about our family origins - there were up to 8 people in the room at times).  I also talked to Richard Bernard (who I had never met or known of) about genealogy and politics.  He was intrigued by my blog.  This ended way too early - I could have spent hours on it.

3)  My favorite session was Cathie Sherwood's "Ankle Beaters and Barkers: Exploring Our Ancestors Occupations."

4)  My favorite feature was the "Relatives at RootsTech" app on the website and the Family Tree mobile app.  I have over 103,500 relatives among the half million of more registrants, and found some real friends on the list.  My closest relative was George, a known 3rd cousin 1x removed that looked me up in the Expo Hall last year!

I much prefer going to RootsTech in person and enjoy most the person-to-person connections with exhibitors, bloggers, speakers, and Genea-Musings readers.  But not this year - hopefully, next year in Salt Lake City.

I really appreciated the indication of a Series of talks within the Sessions offerings; this was a great way for all of the RootsTech attendees to see what talks were related without missing one. The chats were also wonderful for exchanging or learning information and making connections with fellow attendees. RootsTech 2021 was my first opportunity to attend, and I had an amazing experience!
