Carringers in the News -- Hazel Grace Carringer Marries Earl Laird Keck in 1917 in Greenville, Pennsylvania

It's time for another edition of "Carringers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Carringer (my mother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Record-Argus [Greenville, Penn.] newspaper dated 29 June 1917:

The transcription of this article is:

"Carringer-Keck
"Rev. Lloyd L. Swisher officiated at the marriage of Hazel Grace Carringer and Mr. Earl Laird Keck, son of Sylvester Keck of Greenville which took place in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Carringer, 33 Elm street.

"The service was read at 8 o'clock and the attendants were Miss Birdie Keck and Mr. Paul Wilson of Transfer.  Miss Keck wore white and carried a bouquet of pink sweet peas.  The bride wore white embroidered organdy and her flowers were white sweet peas and roses.

"The house decorations were in pink and white, roses and orange blossoms being used.  Following the ceremony, supper was served.  There were forty guests, those from out of town attending were Mrs. W.A. Taylor of New Castle, Miss Lavinia Heckman, Miss Grace Heckman, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Seigle of Youngstown, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baughman and Mr. and Mrs. William Baughman of Oil City.

(Baughman) Carringer of Greenville.  She died 31 July 1964 in Greenville, Pennsylvania.  Earl Laird and Hazel Grace (Carringer) Keck married 28 June 1917 in Greenville, Pennsylvania. They had one child:

*  Claire Earl Keck (1919-1981).

I am a third cousin twice removed to Bessie Louise (Carringer) Davis.  Our common ancestors are my 4th great-grandparents Martin Carringer (1758-1835) and Maria Magdalena Hoax (1768-1851).

There are hundreds of Carringer "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a marriage article contains the names of family and friends. I am glad that I can honor Hazel Grace Carringer today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
