Seavers in the News -- Marguerite Grace Seaver Dies in 1964 in Oakland, California

 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Oakland [Calif.] Tribune newspaper dated 12 November 1964, page 49:

The transcription of the article is:

"SEAVER, Marguerite Grace, In Oakland, November 11, 1964, idolized wife of Guilford (Gil) Seaver; Past State President Fraternal Order of Eagles and former secretary of East Oakland Aerie, No. 1375, F.O.E., and past president of the City of Oakland Recreation and Playground Commission;  beloved mother of Lloyd Seaver of Berkeley and Donald Seaver of Pleasanton; sister of Frederick Carmona of Sacramento, Hazel Smith of San Leandro and the late Frank S. Carmona, Jr.; stepdaughter of Cora S. Carmona of San Francisco; grandmother of Kenneth Alan and Donna Lynne Seaver; mother-in-law of Billie R. Seaver.  A native of San Francisco; aged 66 years.  A member of Golden Wave Chapter, No. 103, O.E.S. of San Leandro and a past Madam President of East Oakland Aerie Auxiliary, No. 1375, F.O.E.

"Friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services Saturday, November 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Fruitvale Chapel of the CLARENCE N. COOPER MORTUARY, 1580 Fruitvale Avenue, Oakland (Parking area adjacent to Chapel).  For further information please phone 522-4114.  Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 477 15th Street, Oakland will be greatly appreciated."

This obituary identifies her extended family members, age, and some details about her associations, and also those of her husband. 

Marguerite Grace Carmona was born 22 February 1898 in California, the daughter of Francis Steven  and May (Boyd) Carmona.  She died 11 November 1964 in Oakland, California.  She married Guilford Lucian "Gil" Seaver (1898-1966) in about 1917 in California.  They had two children:

*  Lloyd Guilford Seaver (1918-1982).

*  Donald Philip Seaver (1923-2003), married 1948 Billie Ruth Warford (1924-1998).

Guilford Lucien Seaver (1898-1966) is a 6th cousin 3 times removed of mine.  Our most recent common Seaver ancestor is my 8th great-grandfather Shubael Seaver (1640-1730).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an obituary with much family information.  I am glad that I can honor Marguerite Grace (Carmona) Seaver today.
