Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Most Interesting Record For An Ancestor

 It's Saturday Night -

time for more Genealogy Fun!

Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible music here) is to:

1)  What is the most interesting record you have found for an ancestor?

2) Tell us about them in a blog post, in a comment to this blog post, or in a comment on Facebook.

Here's mine:

My 2nd great-grandfather Devier James Lamphier Smith (1839-1894) is my most interesting (and favorite) ancestor  - adopted, had many homes, many occupations, left a family Bible, legally changed his name, and some ephemera.  He overcame many life challenges.  The most interesting record I have found for all of my ancestors is this one:

My favorite ancestor was a snake oil salesman!

This is from about 1882 when he resided in Concordia, Kansas.  I'm afraid it's about 140 years to late for me.  Would I have used it when I was about age 25 as my hair was thinning (I always blame Butch Wax for that)?  Probably! $2 is pretty steep in 1880s money for basically a bottle of mineral oil and other ingredients (I think).
