52 Ancestors - Week 479: #759 Mary (Weeden) Greenman (c1673-1743) of Westerly and South Kingstown, Rhode Island

Mary Weeden (1673-1742)  is #759 on my Ahnentafel List, my 7th great-grandmother, who married  #758 Thomas Greenman (c1669-1728) n about 1690 in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Mary Weeden was born in about 1673 in Newport, Rhode Island, the daughter of William and Sarah (Peckham) Weeden[1].

He married in about 1690, probably in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, to Thomas Greenman (1669-1728), the son of Edward and Mary (--?-) Greenman[1-2,5].  They had five children, all born, but not recorded, in South Kingstown or Westerly, Rhode Island:

*  Silas Greenman (c1690-1778), married about 1727 Anna Babcock (1701-1731).
*  Sylvanus Greenman (c1692-1763), married 1721 Sarah Clarke (1692-1801).
*  Judith Greenman (c1694-1786), married c1716 Job Card (1690-1760).
*  Catherine Greenman (1696-????).
*  Abigail Greenman (1698-????).

Thomas Greenman died testate on 30 October 1728 in South Kingstown, and his will was proved on 14 October 1728 by the South Kingstown Town Council[3].  In his will, he made his wife Mary the executrix, and granted her one third of his personal estate:
"Imprimus I give and bequeath to Mary dearly beloved wife after all my just debts be paid & discharged the third part of my moveable Estate and the third part of what my house and Land may be sold for and the rest of my estate my will is yt my Sons shall each of them twice as much as each of my Daughters and I do Intend of the money yt is my meaning also I make my wife my executrix and I do make Capt. Wm Clark of Westerly in the Colony aforesd my Ex-r with my wife if he will Except of it but if he will not except it Then my will is that my wife shall be my hole and Sole Executrix and my will is that my Executrix and Executor shall sell my land and building to pay my Just Debts but if my Executor do not except of it then my will is that my Executrix may do it herself and I do declare this to be my last will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the year and day of the date above written."
Mary Greenman died intestate before 8 August 1743 in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.  Administration on her estate was granted by the town on 8 August 1743[4]. The record reads:
"South Kinstown.

"The Town council of said town in the County of Kings County in the Colony of Rhode Island ye Gen??? Have this day Granted unto Sylvanus Greenman of said Town, Administration upon all the Personal Estate of Mary Greenman, late of said town ???? deced, at the time of her Death. We the Town Council trusting in your Care & Fidelity do by these presents Commit unto you full power & Authority to Administer upon all and Singular the goods Chattles & Credits of Said Deced and Well and truly to Levy, Recover and Receive all Whatsoever Debts and Dues that may appear and to dispose of the same according to Law and to pay all just Debts in which said Deced Stood Bound for so far as her goods,Chattles & Credits will extend and to Render a true and plain accompt of your Administration to said town Council according to Law.

"Sealed with the seal of said town Council and Signed the 8th day of August in the Seventeenth Year of his Majesty Reign, George the Second over Great Brittain King, Anno Domini one thousand Seven Hundred and Forty three
Order of the Town council, Thomas Hazard, clerk of the Town."
