Seavers in the News -- John W. Seaver Dies in 1973 in Madison, Indiana

 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Cincinnati [Ohio] Post newspaper dated 13 August 1973, page 2:

The transcription of the article is:

"Farm tractor overturns, kills Moorefield man

"VEVAY:  John W. Seaver, 48, of Moorefield, R.3, Madison, was killed Saturday evening when the farm tractor he was operating overturned, also injuring his nephew, Richard Dodd, 9, of Indianapolis.

"Police learned that Seaver and his nephew, assisted by Terry Dodd, 11, Richard's brother, were sowing grass seed when the tractor flipped over backwards on a steep hillside.  Seaver was crushed and died of internal injuries.

"Terry Dodd jumped clear and Richard Todd was released after treatment of cuts and bruises at the King's Daughters Hospital at Madison.

"Mr. Seaver was the manager of the Sherwin-Williams paint store at Madison.

"His services will be held at 2 p.m. (EST) Tuesday at the Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home, where visitation will be after 4 p.m. today.  Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery with military rites.  Masonic rites will be at 8 p.m. today.

"  He leaves his wife, Evelyn; one son, Carlyle of Columbus; two daughters, Miss Holly Seaver of Louisville, Ky., and Miss Cheryl Seaver of Madison; his mother, Mrs. Mamie Morris of Aurora; one sister, Mrs. Wanda Pinnell of Moores Hill; three brothers, Stafford of Aurora; Robert of Cincinnati and Matthew of Quincy, Mass., and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Pennington of Cincinnati.  There are fur grandchildren.

John Wesley Seaver (1925-1973) was born 15 February 1925 in Cotton, Indiana, the son of John Lemuel and Mary (Romans) Seaver.  He died 11 August 1973 in Madison, Indiana.  He married three times, first to Laura Jean Reed (1924-????); they had one child:

*  Carlyle Douglas Seaver (1942-????), married Jonell Monroe (1942-2015).

John Wesley Seaver married, second, to Velta Mae Davidson (1922-2002).  They had two daughters:

*  Cheryl H. Seaver (1947-2019), married Ryan Thomson (1945-????)
*  Holly J. Seaver (1954-????), married 1973 Lester Dale Melton (1949-????).

John Wesley Seaver married, third, in 1969 to Evelyn Charlotte Ramseyer (1919-1997).  They had no children.

John Wesley Seaver (1925-1973) may be related to me, but I cannot connect his earliest Seaver ancestor to my Massachusetts Seaver family.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an accident that shortens their life. I am glad that I can honor John Wesley Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
