Best of the Genea-Blogs - 4 to 10 October 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Genealogy Roadshow Comes to Providence by Diane Boumenot on the One Rhode Island Family blog.  Diane was present at the show taping and has lots of photographs.

*  Putting the Historical Record Collections in Focus by James Tanner on the Rejoice, and be Exceeding Glad blog.  James helps a patron find Italian family records on FamilySearch, showing step-by-step how he did it without a searchable index.

*  Stand In Line, Overhear a Conversation, and a Week Later Order a Book Just to Practice? by Pat Richley-Erickson on DearMYRTLE's Genealogy Blog.  An amazing research story!

*  New Jersey Estate Records -- a Primer and New Jersey Estate Records: What exactly are the Secretary of State Pre-1901 Estate files? by Michelle Tucker Chubenko on the jerseyrootsgenealogy blog.  Michelle provides an excellent overview of New Jersey estate records.

*  Who Wants to be a Genealogy Rock Star?  I'd Rather be a HERO by Jennifer Alford on the Jenealogy blog.  Jennifer lists her heroes - i'm honored to be one of them.

*  Education -- Intermediate and Education -- Advanced by Michele Simmons Lewis on the Ancestoring blog.  Michele continues her series on genealogy education with recommendations for Intermediate and advanced level learners.

*  A First Funeral by Dave McDonald on the Thinking Genealogically blog.  Dave remembers his first funeral at age 11 - a beautiful story.

*  Your Genealogical Education by Sheri Fenley on The Educated Genealogist blog.  Sheri identifies the range of educational opportunities.

*  Do You Have a Genealogy Hero? by Shannon Combs Bennett on the Trials and Tribulations of a Self-Taught Family Historian blog.  Shannon lists some of her genealogy heroes.

*  Darned, Stout Rope by the write of The Ancestry Insider blog.  Mr. AI transcribes the interesting 1908 will of George S. Wolff of Pennsylvania.

*  DNA.Land Launches by CeCe Moore on Your Genetic Genealogist blog.  CeCe discusses this new DNA website and shows her results.
