Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- My Thanksgiving Day

  It's Saturday Night -

Time For More Genealogy Fun!

Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible! music) is to:

A)  We all need to document some of the special moments in our lives so we can recall them, or our descendants can learn more about us.  Today's question is "What was your Thanksgiving Day like this year?"

B)  Please share it in your own blog post, in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook post.

Here's mine:

Thanksgiving 2022 started out with struggling to figure out the Wordle puzzle at 5:30 a.m.  It took me six tries to get FEAST.  Duh.  Read my email and blogs, wrote the Happy Thanksgiving post, had breakfast, and dozed in the recliner.

Our daughter Tami and our two granddaughters arrived just after 9 a.m. to celebrate with me.  First, we visited Linda at the memory care facility, both in the Uno room and in Linda's room.  It's always great to see all of them - the girls are 17 and 14 now.  Here's a photo of all of us in the hallway outside of Linda's room:

Then they took me to the Black Angus restaurant in Chula Vista for an 11:30 a.m. Thanksgiving dinner.  I had lots of turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, and broccoli.  They dropped me off at home, and left for their home at about 1:15 p.m.  I dozed in the recliner for an hour.

Our former neighbors (they moved away in about 1985), Rick and Pat, had invited me to their family Thanksgiving dinner at the home of one of their three daughters (I hadn't seen the girls since about 1990), and I got there at 3 p.m.  The traditional food was served, but I just had a dinner roll and a slice of ham because I was still full from lunch.  Their daughters are about the ages of my own daughters, and they have children.  It was wonderful to catch up on their lives, and I fear I bored them with my stories about Linda's fall and my heart problems.  One of the spouses is interested in genealogy and they wanted to read my blog.  We watched the sun go down in the back yard, talked about memories living on our street and playing softball.  We had pumpkin pie with cool whip  (yum) at about 5:30 p.m.  I left at 6 p.m.

At home, I read the newspaper while watching sport highlights, had a bowl of apple sauce, then worked on the 52 Ancestors post for Friday morning.  Daughter Lori called about the plans for Linda's 80th birthday next week.  Checked my email and read my blogs (many since my morning check), and read my James Patterson novel until bedtime at 9:45 p.m.

There were no earthshaking or exciting moments.  The day was fun because I got to see real people that I cherish in person and share with them.   But I survived another day.  Life goes on in the slow lane here in the genealogy cave.
