Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 28 May 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for #761 Elizabeth (Remington) Kenyon (1686-c1747) of South Kingstown and Westerly, Rhode Island for the 52 Ancestors series on Friday.  I've written 481 of these sketches for my ancestors.

2)  Transcribed the one page 1853 Will of Thomas Seaver of Walpole, New Hampshire for the Amanuensis Monday series.

3)  Updated the list of 52 Ancestors genealogical sketches to bring it up to date.  Edited a number of early 52 Ancestors posts to bring them up to date.  Made 54 PDFs of 52 Ancestors posts (1st, 2nd and 3rd great-grandparents) and put them in a separate computer file folder.  Only 427 more to do!

4)  Started reorganizing the genealogy cave and closet.  Put all the "important" papers to be shredded in one bin in the corner of the closet floor.  Trashed most of the genealogy papers (mainly paper copies of probate records which were transcribed) on the metal frame shelves in the closet and started putting binders on those shelves.  Still have the CVGS box of papers on the floor to sort out and then I can get into the bookcases to weed out papers and into the file cabinet drawers to see what treasures are hiding there.  I still have albums and boxes of family photos to sort, weed out or scan.

5) AncestryDNA now has 43,281 DNA matches (up 40 from 21 May) for me today, with one new ThruLines.   I added one Note to my new matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,400 DNA matches (up 31 from 21 May) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

6)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 49,536 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 42).

7) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 71,088 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 41), and 145,999  source citations (up 11). I TreeShared 182 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 459 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 177,895 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

8) Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Monday through Sunday), of which four were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Drinking Champagne at the Rehearsal Dinner -- Post 769 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday with over 109 views.  Genea-Musings had about 11,400 views last week.

9)  Real life:  This is week 168 (over three years!) since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.  I'm still sorting out stuff from the closet and the genealogy cave - save, toss or donate.  The backyard weedwacking is about 98% done now, but the weeds are still growing; next is the weeds on the backside of the backyard wall.  Walked every day on the block and talked to several neighbors.  Went to the Cardiac Rehab center for the physical, and my blood pressure was high again.  Further rehab is on hold until after two doctor visits this week.  I finished my David Baldacci book and started reading The Rivers Murders by James Patterson.  The Padres season continued, and I watched all of the games this past week.  They are 24-29 so far (3-3 this past week) and in fourth place in the NL West division.
