Treasures In the Closet - My Mother's Childhood Scrapbook and Art Portfolio

After my mother died in early 2002, we emptied her house and sold it, and I took home the "family history stuff" that nobody else wanted.  It included collections from her grandparents, parents, and her own family life.

 One of the treasures that I found in the closet of my genealogy cave (which had been my daughter's bedroom before 1997) was the "childhood scrapbook and art portfolio" of my mother, Betty Virginia (Carringer) Seaver hiding on the top shelf of the closet.  

I put "scrapbook" in quotes because it wasn't a usual scrapbook - it was a large (16 inches wide, 24 inches tall) that she pasted "stuff" into from her school days (elementary school in 1924-1931) and junior high school (1931-1934).  There were notes, cards and well-wishes, newspaper articles, stories, poems, and her childhood artwork.  She eventually received a Bachelor of Science degree in Art in 1940, and was a junior high school art teacher during the early 1940s.

There are many more examples.

The challenge now is what to do with this "scrapbook and art portfolio."  It's back on the shelf in the closet for now along with other treasures (like my father's bowling scrapbook, my father's retirement plaques, and more).
