Best of the Genea-Blogs - 29 December 2024 to 4 January 2025

Scores of genealogy and family history bloggers write hundreds of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for most daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Long-time Irish genealogist Claire Santry honoured by Gail Dever on Genealogy a la carte.

*  US Military Records via BIRLS - My Beta User Experience by Lara Diamond on Lara's Jewnealogy.

*  How to Write Personal Stories: Perspectives from Memoir and Family History by Laura Hedgecock on Treasure Chest of Memories.

*  Artificial Intelligence and Genealogy: A Look Back at 2024 by Diana Elder on Family Locket.

Organizing the Past: A New Year’s Genealogy Resolution by Ellen Thompson-Jennings on Hound On the Hunt.

*  Unearthing the Past: How an Old Ledger Revealed Hidden Family Secrets by Paul Chiddicks on The Chiddicks Family Tree.

*  Pro Tools Part 20a by Jim Bartlett on Segment-ology.

*  2024 Retrospective – Plus New Color Version of Complete Guide to FamilyTreeDNA by Roberta Estes on DNAeXplained -- Genetic Genealogy.

*  The 2025 AI Genealogy Do-Over by Steve Little on AI Genealogy Insights.

*  Reflections on 2024: A Year of Storytelling, Family, and Milestones by Deb Holman on Who We Are ... And How We Got This Way.

*  Miscellaneous Thoughts: 2024 by Jill Morelli on Genealogy Certification: My Personal Journey.

*  AncestryDNA Tests Reveal More Than Just Your Ethnicity: From Secrets to Sisters by Crista Cowan on Crista Cowan, the Barefoot Genealogist.

*  Asking ChatGPT for a Locality Research Plan by Linda Stufflebean on Empty Branches on the Family Tree.

*  AI does a “Genealogist’s Lament: The Silent Friday from FindmyPast” by John Reid on Anglo-Celtic Connections.

*  MyHeritage is on deadline to make a difficult change for some users on Feb. 1 by Vera Miller on Find Lost Russian & Ukrainian Family.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

Friday’s Family History Finds by Linda Stufflebean on Empty Branches on the Family Tree.

*  This week’s crème de la crème — January 4, 2025 by Gail Dever on Genealogy a la Carte.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add the blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I currently am reading posts from over 900 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
