Tuesday's Tip - New York County Marriages, 1847-1848 and 1908-1936 on FamilySearch

This week's Tuesday's Tip is:  Check out New York County Marriages, 1847-1848, 1908-1936 on FamilySearch.

This New York County Marriage collection is indexed and searchable at  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1618491:

The collection description says:

"Name index and images of New York county marriage records. New York state began requiring marriage records for each county in 1908. The collection includes the following counties: Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Delaware, Essex, Fulton, Genesee, Greene, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Madison, Monroe, Montgomery, Nassau, Niagara, Oneida, Ontario, Orange, Orleans, Oswego, Otsego, Putnam, Rockland, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schuyler, Seneca, St. Lawrence, Steuben, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Westchester, Wyoming, and Yates. The collection does not include New York City nor its boroughs. Currently this collection is 42% complete. Additional records by county will be added as they are completed."

Note that this covers 46 New York Counties, but not the New York City boroughs, Albany, Dutchess, Erie, Renssalaer or Suffolk; I'm sure there are others I haven't thought of not on the list also at this time.  There is a coverage table available here.

The collection is only 42% complete at this time and additional records will be added as they are completed.

I entered the surname "seaver" in the search field and was rewarded with 135 results:

I clicked on the second one on the list and saw the record summary:

I wanted to see the image for this marriage record, so I clicked on the "View the document" link in the upper right-hand corner of the screen above (under the blue "Attach to Family Tree" button):

The record I want is one of eight on the image above.  Zooming in, I can see the details for the Seaver-Lang marriage:

I can download this image using the "Download" link in the upper right-hand corner of the image above between the "Print" and "Tools" links.

FamilySearch continues to digitize and index their microfilms and this makes it easier for researchers to find records of their ancestors.  New York Researchers will have to watch this online record collection as it grows and adds more content over time.
