Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 16 March 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Research Group on Wednesday at the library.  I reported on RootsTech activities and videos, the Ancestry World War II draft registration cards, the MyHeritage city directory collection, the free Irish research opportunities, and the 24 hour marathon.  The attendees discussed their research over the past month.

2)  Watched the Thursday keynote session from RootsTech, and one of the videoed classes.

3)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt on Zoom.  We discussed the corona virus impact on genealogy, Zoom conferences, my Amanuensis Monday post, several blog posts on the Best Of list, amy Richmond find in Putnam, Connecticut records, the FamilySearch research wiki for Ireland and Massachusetts, and using county history books.

4)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandfather #532 Ebenezer Reed (1690-1767) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

5)  Transcribed the 1716/7 Articles of Agreement For Joseph Glezen's Estate in Sudbury, Mass.  for Amanuensis Monday.

6)  Added Notes to about 20 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors, and added three ThruLines to the RootsMagic family tree database.  Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

7)  Started working on the "Evidences" for my Mayflower Society application.  Created a Microsoft word document with chapters for each generation, and will fill it in one generation at a time, attaching record images and source citations in each chapter.  Helped cousin Laura find her great-grandmother's birth record in Putnam, Connecticut too.

8)  Started looking for probate records for the Brigham line on American Ancestors, downloaded them to my files, and will transcribe them at some point.

9) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 34,604 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 50).

10)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 56,433 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 78) , and 117,314 source citations (up 360).   I TreeShared two times this week updating 216 profiles, and I resolved 1087 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 125,534 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

11)  Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was Dear Randy: "What is the Best Way to Refresh My Online Trees?"  with over 392 views.

12)  We are fine here at the Genea-pad, hunkered down and not going out much.  We postponed our 50th wedding anniversary party and will probably eat dinner at home on Saturday night.  Our church canceled services, the library is closed, and CVGS and SDGS canceled March programs.  We anticipate eating at home on our 50th wedding anniversary on this coming Saturday.
