It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.
The treasure today is the marriage record for Joseph Grout and Mary Rogers in Watertown, Massachusetts:
The marriage record is the 4th entry at the top of the right-hand page:
The transcription of this record is:
"Joseph Grout and Mary Rogers both of Watertown, wer Joyned in Marriage by Mr.
Samuel Angier a Minister in Watertown, January 3: 1716/17"
The source citation for this marriage record is:
"Massachusetts, U.S., Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988," indexed database and digital image, Ancestry.com (https://www.ancestry.com), Watertown > Births, Marriages and Deaths > page 47 (image 308 of 3991), Joseph Grout and Mary Rogers, 3 January 1716/7.
This town record book is probably an Original Source, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence as to the names, marriage date and place.
Joseph Grout (1683-1758) is the son of Joseph Group and Susannah Hagar. Mary Rogers (1693-1774) is the daughter of Edward Harrington and Mary Ockington, and the widow of Daniel Rodgers (1686-1711).
Joseph and Mary (Harrington) (Rodgers) Grout are my 6th great-grandparents, through their daughter Mehitable Grout (1722-1795), who married Moses Brigham (1723-1769) in 1749.
