Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.
This week's entry is from The Morning Sentinel [Waterville, ME] newspaper dated Monday, 13 November 1978, page 12, Column 2:
The transcription of the article is:
"GEORGE I. SEAVER
"DEXTER -- George I. Seaver, 48, died Friday at a Waterville hospital following a short illness.
"He was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Troy, son of Heber and Iva Stone Seaver.
"He had lived here for the past three years, previously living in the Detroit area.
"He had been employed at the Eastland Woolen Mill for several years.
"He is survived by his wife, Mary Garnett Seaver of Dexter; one daughter, Patricia Seaver of Dexter; two step-sons, Robert Jones Jr. of Pittsfield and Leslie Garnett of Pittsfield; two step-daughters, Mildred Weeks of Dexter and Roberta Williams of Dexter; one brother, Arthur Seaver of Gardiner; three sisters, Ruth Parsons of Troy, Rita Gerry of Unity and Bernice Howes of Troy; 108 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
"Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, Pittsfield, where friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m."

This obituary provides the decedent's name, death day and place, age, birth date and place, wife's name, parents' names, children names, siblings names, previous residence. place of work, services, but not his marriage information or associations.
George Israel Seaver (1930-1978) was born 13 September 1930 in Troy, Maine, the son of Irvin Heber and Iva Belle (Stone) Seaver. He died 10 November 1978 in Waterville, Maine. George married Mary E. Garnett (1928-2010) and they may have had one child:
* Patricia Seaver (c1967-????), married 1985 Terry L. McIntosh (c1965-????).
George Israel Seaver (1930-1978) is my 8th cousin 2 times removed, with common Seaver ancestor of my 9th great-grandfather, Robert Seaver (1608-1683).
There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this is one of them. Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person's obituary names a lot of family members. I am glad that I can honor George Israel Seaver today.
