Best of the Genea-Blogs - 24 to 30 May 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Tuesday's Tip:  User a Research Plan by Nichelle Barra on the Copper Leaf Genealogy blog.  Nikki describes her plan, and provides some links to others.

*  Being NextGen by Midge Frazel on The Highly Caffeinated Genealogist blog.  Midge and her family are into scrapbooking, cemetery hunting, and more.  It's a great way to grow genealogists.

*  A Day at the DAR Library by Sierra Pope on the Up In The Tree blog.  Sierra had great success at the  DAR Library recently.

*  Ask Ancestry Anne:  Can I Trust Trees? by Anne Gillespie Mitchell on the Ancestry.com Blog.  Anne provides an excellent answer and advice.

*  Land Records for Genealogists: Deeds, Patents and and Grants, What's the Difference? by Michelle Goodrum on The In-Depth Genealogist blog.  This is an excellent article defining these terms and providing background information.

*  Conclusion or Confusion? by Elizabeth Shown Mills on the Evidence Explained QuickTips blog.  Elizabeth discusses hypothesis, theory and proof and how they should be applied in genealogical work.

*  Why I Love Newspapers.com by Susan Petersen on the Long Lost Relatives.net blog.  Susan shares her opinion about newspaper providers.

*  Excel Trick by Michele Simmons Lewis on the Ancestoring blog.  Michele found a way to organize information from Ancestry Member Trees for a one-name study.

*  The Shared cM Project and  Visualizing Data from the Shared cM Project by Blaine Bettinger on The Genetic Genealogist blog.  Blaine has an autosomal DNA project going which DNA testers can contribute to.  He also has a nifty chart showing shared cM with specific relatives.

*  Living Up To Expectations ... Or Not and  Uno Kempff ... Family Scandal or Family Friend? by Erica Voolich on Erica's Adventures in Genealogy blog.  Erica's saga of the Swedish immigrant girl, Johanna Hellsten, continues.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  GAGs - GeniAus Gems - 29 May 2015 by Jill Ball on the GeniAus blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1560 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
