Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 8 September 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Board Meeting on Wednesday and reported on the monthly Newsletter, Research Group and DNA Interest Group.

2)  Wrote, edited and published the September 2024 issue of the CVGS Family History Gazette newsletter and distributed it on Saturday to the membership.

3)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) DNA Interest Group meeting on Saturday with Colin Whitney, who presented "Distant Matches and Setting Up MyHeritage."

4)  Participated in Mondays With Myrt last Monday (2 September), and we discussed writing an effective query, one-name studies, DNA shared match tool, my comparison of my transcription of a handwritten will with AI transcriptions, Canada land and probatew records, and more.

5)  Transcribed the 1875 Deed of William Lewis Sovereen to Abraham James Kemp for Land in Norfolk County, Ontario for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

6)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my Great-Grandaunt Sarah Elizabeth (Kemp) Cropp (1862-1946) of Ontario and Illinois for the 52 Relatives theme.

7)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my mother, Betty Virginia (Carringer) Seaver (1919-2002) to  complete my genealogical sketches up to known 4th great-grandparents.

8)  Requested Perplexity AI to create a poem about my own family tree surnames and localities,  and had Suno.com create a song.  I posted them in "Randy's Roots" - A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

9)  Requested four AI tools to answer a research question in Ask AI: "Provide Genealogy Research Suggestions For Finding the Parents of Sarah Fletcher."

10)  Searched FamilySearch Full-Text Search for land deeds of my 2nd great-grandfather, Alexander Sovereen (1814-1907) of Norfolk County, Ontario.  I downloaded 21 images, transcriptions, and source citations.

11)  Created more short narrative reports in RootsMagic 10 for more ancestors in New England and New Jersey and added the reports to their Person Notes.  The reports include the info about each person, their spouse, their children, research notes, and sources.

12)  AncestryDNA now has 46,849 DNA matches (up 50 from 2 September) with 1983 "close" matches for me today, with 4 new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 6 new Matches, and added 3 new lines of a  match to my RootsMagic tree.  MyHeritageDNA now has 12,819 DNA matches (up 19 from 2 September) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

13)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 51,942  of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 23).

14) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 73,652 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 44), and 147,195 source citations (up 19).    TreeShared 112 new and updated profiles with my Ancestry tree.  Resolved 249 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 31,718 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

15) Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which three were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
"Frederick's Life Journey" - A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence with over 171 views.  Genea-Musings had about 174,000 page views last week and over 972,000 views for the past month.

16)  Real life:  Visited Linda almost every day at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Attended the church Men's Bible Study for breakfast on Saturday.  Still reading Crashers by Dana Haynes.  My Padres went 3-3 this week and are 81-64 on the season - and are in playoff contention.  Watched the Chargers game and they beat the Raiders 22-10 on Sunday.
