Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 28 July 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Attended the GeneaBloggers Premium Members webinar on Saturday.  We discussed how to expand our blogging reach, and watched Carolyn Thompson's Canva presentation.

2)  Transcribed the 1683 Will of Nicholas Bonham (1631-1684) of Piscataway, New Jersey for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

3)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my great-grandaunt Agnes Bell Smith (1868-1870) and my great-granduncle Lucian H. Smith (1875-1878)  for the 52 Relatives theme.

5)  Found several newspaper articles about Martin Carringer, and transcribed a long one in Carringers in the News -- The Pennsylvania Story of Martin Carringer (1758-1835).

6)  Had Perplexity.ai create a biography of Martin Carringer (1758-1835) based on what it could find by a web search.  Also had Microsoft Copilot AI create a poem about his life and Suno.com create a song, and posted them in "Carringer's Journey" - A Genealogy Poem and Song From Artificial Intelligence.

7)  Created narrative reports in RootsMagic 10 for more ancestors in New Jersey and added the reports to their Person Notes.  The reports include the info about each person, their spouse, their children, and any earlier research or event notes.

8)  Worked some more on my AncestryDNA SMOSMs (Share Matches of Shared Matches).  Discussed one of them in When the Family Tree of a DNA Match and Shared DNA Matches Don't Add Up.  I think my match was adopted.

9)  AncestryDNA now has 46,483 DNA matches (up 52 from 21 July) with 1973 "close" matches for me today, with no new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 7 new Matches, and added one line of a  match to my RootsMagic tree.  MyHeritageDNA now has 12,709 DNA matches (up 31 from 21 July) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

10)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 51,815  of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 65).

11) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 73,536 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 63), and 147,061 source citations (up 18).  TreeShared 180 new and updated profiles with my Ancestry tree.  Resolved 396 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 243,911 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

12) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which one were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Perplexity Rocks as an AI Genealogy Report Tool with over 289 views.  Genea-Musings had about 136,000 page views last week and over 443,500 views for the past month.

13)  Real life:  Visited Linda almost every day at her memory care facility.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Tried to walk at dusk on the block every day.  Started reading Count Down, A Thriller by James Patterson.  My Padres went 5-1 this week and are 57-51 on the season - and are back in playoff contention.
