Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 23 June 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted, moderated and presented the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) DNA Interest  Group meeting on Wednesday.  We discussed the new AncestryDNA tool Shared Matches of Shared Matches, DNA Facebook groups, FamilyTreeDNA blogs, using ChatGPT for DNA information, and the question "What is your highest value DNA match with an unknown relationship to you?"

2)  Attended the in-person CVGS Education Meeting on Tuesday.  Karen Smith presented information on Military Records.  It was good to see my colleagues.

3)  Participated in Mondays With Myrt on Monday (17 June) on Streamyard.  We discussed Transkribus, Blogger  themes, the history of a place, AI comparisons, and New Nether;land Settlers.

4)  Searched for and transcribed the 1814 will of 6th great-grandfather George Wakeman (1740-1814) of Ashtabula County, Ohio. for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

Also found three other records for this estate file and searched for hours for another record without success.

5)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my great-grandaunt Emily Elizabeth (White) Barstow (1849-1936) of Connecticut  for 52 Relatives theme.

8)  Paid for, downloaded, installed and started using the new RootsMagic 10, which has some new features.

9)  Used prompts to write more poems on ChatGPT4o and songs on Suno.com (my channel is https://suno.com/@skeletalvenue315).  Wrote "The Tale of Devier Smith" in AI-Created Rhyme and Song and I Can't Resist Creating a Genealogy Song... "Roots Run Deep."

10)  AncestryDNA added the new "Shared Matches of Shared Matches" Pro tool to help analyze DNA matches - see AncestryDNA Pro Tools - Shared Matches of Shared Matches (SMOSM) Are Great!

11)  AncestryDNA now has 46,177 DNA matches (up 45 from 16 June) with 1963 "close" matches for me today, with two new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 2 new Matches, and 7 new Match lines to RootsMagic for existing DNA matches using SMOSM.  MyHeritageDNA now has 12,602 DNA matches (up 13 from 16 June) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

12)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 51,602 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 43).

13) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 73,298 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 63), and 146,943 source citations (up 13).  TreeShared 172 new and updated profiles with my Ancestry tree.  Resolved 345 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 20,936 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

14) Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
AncestryDNA Pro Tools - Shared Matches of Shared Matches (SMOSM) Are Great!  with over 277 views.  Genea-Musings had about 28.700 page views last week and over 197,000 views for the month of June to date.

15)  Real life:  Visited Linda every day at her memory care facility.  Attended the CVGS in-person Education Meeting on Tuesday. Finished reading The Rule of Nine by Steve Martini and started Simple Genius by David Baldacci.  My Padres went 4-3 this week and are 41-41 on the season - going nowhere fast.
